When choosing your destination, be sure to make a realistic budget overview of all the costs associated with your international mobility. The cost of your mobility program will depend on several factors, such as:
- Fees at CATÓLICA-LISBON (during the international mobility period);
- Fees at the Host University (if applicable);
- Living costs at the chosen destination(s).
Students are responsible for all the costs associated with their international mobility program. We strongly advise you to research this information prior to the application period.
Fees at CATÓLICA-LISBON (during the international mobility period)
During the international mobility period, all students must settle the annual enrolment and monthly tuition fees* to CATÓLICA-LISBON. Although you will not be physically present on campus, you shall maintain your status as a CATÓLICA-LISBON/UCP student. This also guarantees that students are covered by UCP’s School Insurance.
Master Students
Master students may perform an optional Exchange semester in the 3rd semester of their program has a fixed cost for all students. The applicable fees per program can be checked at the Tuition Fees and Payments List (Master Students).
Undergraduate Students
Students will pay a monthly tuition fee corresponding to 30 ECTS (30 ECTS × ECTS cost = monthly tuition fee). The applicable fees per program can be checked at the Tuition Fees and Payments List (Undergraduate Students).
> If Undergraduate students take less than 30 ECTS/semester in coursework abroad, there will be no reimbursement of any kind;
> If Undergraduate students take more than 30 ECTS/semester in coursework abroad, they will have to settle the extra cost corresponding to the ECTS in excess upon return to CATÓLICA-LISBON;
> For students participating in the One-YEAR Exchange Program, the settlement of the abovementioned extra costs relates to taking more than 60 ECTS/academic year (30 ECTS x 2 semesters) and will take place upon return to CATÓLICA-LISBON (at the end of the second semester).
Fees at the Host University
Students participating in the Exchange Program are exempted from the payment of tuition fees at the Host University.
Some universities – namely in destinations outside the Erasmus+ Program – may charge administrative fees, such as registration fees, purchase of mandatory health insurance, academic material costs, etc. These fees are determined by each partner school, subject to change anytime without prior notice, and should be settled by the student. Please verify the application of such costs at each university’s factsheet and official website.
Living costs abroad
The total cost of your international mobility period may depend on several aspects – such as the length of your stay and the host country/city –, so it is crucial to make an estimated budget of all possible expenses associated with it:
> Assess your personal budget;
> Consult the Host University’s factsheet and official website, since these may contain useful information about costs at the host country/city on accommodation, transportation, food, leisure activities, etc;
> Make use of online resources such as travel blogs, feedback from previous Exchange students and tools like Numbeo to compare the living costs between countries/cities.
You should also take into consideration that there are some costs that are due prior to departure like visa-related fees and health insurance (if applicable) and the international journey to your host country/city (flights/train/bus tickets).
*Each semester is composed of five monthly installments. The Fall semester comprehends the months between September and January and the Spring semester the period between February and June. This is not adjusted according to the beginning/ending date of the semester(s) at the Host University.
