CATÓLICA-LISBON Research Unit in Business and Economics (CUBE) was created in 1997 with the mission to generate world class cutting-edge knowledge in management and economics, emphasizing its societal impact. Through a culture of research excellence and collaboration, CUBE aims to be recognized among the top European research groups in Business and Economics, distinguished for both its impactful contributions to society and outstanding research.
Since 1998, it has been classified as "Excellent" by FCT and, in FCT's last evaluation, in 2019, CUBE was awarded the highest classification of Portuguese research units in Management (14 out of 15).
The CUBE Director, Scientific Council, External Advisory Board, and Management Office collaborate to best allocate resources and maximize research output. CUBE currently has 74 integrated researchers from 15 different nationalities.
CUBE has produced substantial knowledge that has benefited science, organizations, and society. It has disseminated this knowledge via international journals, conferences, seminars, and educational activities. Its members have also served on editorial boards, led scholarly communities, and organized international conferences. In 2018-23, CUBE members participated in 51 ongoing project grants and secured 37 new ones.
CUBE has significantly expanded its global research through strategic partnerships with institutions worldwide. As a result, 80% of its papers were co-authored with international experts, 90% of whom are affiliated with non-Portuguese universities. CUBE members also led several international project consortia and had mentions in numerous foreign media outlets.
CATÓLICA-LISBON is recognized for its outstanding research productivity, ranking 36th in Europe according to the UTD Top 100 Business School Research Rankings for the period 2018-2023 (the highest-ranked Portuguese school in this ranking, which is notable also considering its smaller size compared to peer Schools in Europe).
