Miguel Godinho de Matos is a Professor of Information Systems and Management at Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, where he is the Dean of Faculty. He has a courtesy appointment at Carnegie Mellon University where he is affiliated with the Initiative for Digital Entertainment (IDEA).

Miguel received a Ph.D. and an M.Sc. in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.Sc. and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon.

Miguel's research delves into the digitization effects on the creative industries, social networks, peer influence in consumer behavior, and consumer privacy regulation responses. His findings have been featured in premier Information Systems journals including Management Science, Management Information Systems Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and the Journal of Management Information Systems. Miguel has also published his work in top journals in economics and Marketing, such as Marketing Science, the Journal of Political Economy, The Economic Journal, and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organizations.

Since 2013, Miguel has managed approximately 1 million dollars in research funds, with two-thirds of this amount originating directly from industry sources. 

Miguel has been a Senior Editor at Management Information Systems Quarterly since January 2024. He was an Associate Editor from January 2020 until December 2023 and received an Outstanding Associate Editor distinction. In 2019, he was awarded two early career awards, one from the Information Systems Society at INFORMS and another from the Association of Information Systems.

Before joining academia, Miguel worked as an Investment Banker and Management consultant. Since joining academia, he kept an active link to the industry, serving as an external consultant for telecommunications firms in Europe and Asia and as an external consultant for Statistics Portugal.
