João L. Barroso, Sustainability Coordinator for the Wines of Alentejo (part of the Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission), coordinates and monitors the sustainability performance of the biggest wine region in Portugal. He conducts research and assists producers to implement best available practices, whilst promoting knowledge exchange between the members of the program. He liaises with all stakeholders from across the industry, nationally and internationally. The project João coordinates has achieved national and international recognition through multiple awards. His expertise includes sustainable grape growing and wine making, climate change, pollution prevention, eco-efficiency and green buildings. He has worked and lived in Europe, Australia and the Middle East. He has a bachelor in Environmental Engineering from ULHT, Lisbon, Portugal, and a MSc in Environmental Management and Policy from Lund University, Sweden.
