João Cotter Salvado is an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics. He holds a Ph.D. and an MPhil in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from London Business School, as well as degrees in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics and in NGO Management and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

His research lies at the intersection of strategy, entrepreneurship, and organization theory, with a particular focus on how top managers and entrepreneurs use language and communication as strategic tools. His work has been published in leading academic journals such as Organization Science and featured in practitioner outlets including the Harvard Business Review. His research has been presented at major international conferences and supported by grants from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Deloitte Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Strategic Management Society (SRF Program).

At Católica Lisbon, João serves as Academic Director of the Católica-Lisbon Entrepreneurship Center. He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Yunus Social Innovation Center and Scientific Advisor to the Center for Responsible Business and Leadership.

He teaches across Master’s and executive programs, with a focus on entrepreneurial experimentation, strategic innovation, impact entrepreneurship, and venture scaling. He also advises entrepreneurs and mentors senior leaders.

Outside academia, João is a Non-Executive Director at Unicorn Factory Lisboa and Mentes Empreendedoras. Prior to joining Católica Lisbon, he was Research Director at IES – Social Business School and co-founded several social ventures, including two NGOs operating in Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.
