Francisca is a modern abolitionist working at the intersection of business & human rights, sustainability and technology, with the purpose of empowering the most vulnerable people in our global economy. She has expertise in modern slavery, human trafficking and broader human rights and labour rights abuses in global supply chains. Through research, policy and advocacy, she collaborated with the UK government, businesses, investors and civil society using evidence to inform UN, national and corporate policy, programming and practice. She currently works as a Business & Human Rights Lead at B-corp (pending) C-MORE. From 2020-2021, she worked for Walk Free, human rights organisation and producer of the Global Slavery Index, where she conducted research on government responses and corporate transparency reporting under the UK Modern Slavery Act. From 2018-2019, she worked at the United Nations University Institute in Macau on a multi-stakeholder intervention for identifying victims of human trafficking and forced labour in South Asia across the fishing industry and garment sector. She also consulted for The Mekong Club, a Hong Kong-based NGO leading the private sector to end modern slavery. Francisca studied Political Science at ISCSP University of Lisbon, and Comparative Politics at the London School of Economics (LSE).
She is currently doing a PhD in Management at Royal Holloway University of London and under the remit of the UNESCO Chair in ICT4D and the UKRI South-South Migration, Inequality and Development Hub (MIDEQ). In April 2021, she was included in the #ThinklistNext, the next generation of thinkers in the area of responsible business.
