Today, November 14 will take place the 11th Conference of the Bank of Portugal with the theme "Economic Development of the European Space" - dedicated to the analysis of public policies. In this conference will also be presented the best master's theses on the Portuguese economy, among which, in the first five places, are four theses of graduates of CATÓLICA-LISBON.

Every two years, Banco de Portugal, in partnership with the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation, awards a prize to the best master's thesis in economics. These theses are chosen by an external jury. With the José da Silva Lopes Award, Banco de Portugal aims at promoting and recognizing merit in the preparation of economic research, an area central to the mission it pursues.

This 11th conference will take place at the Museu do Dinheiro, in Largo São Julião in Lisbon, and will discuss key themes for the Portuguese economy. It is foreseen, among the programmatic content, the awarding of the best master thesis in the area of the Portuguese economy, where one of CATÓLICA-LISBON's students may be highlighted.

In a highly competitive selection, four of the five students distinguished by the Bank of Portugal in this Conference, in an initiative supported by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation - Martim Leitão, Madalena Gaspar, Rahim Richard Jiva Lila and Francisca Monteiro Fernandes de Novais e Silva - are graduates of the Master in Economics of the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics.

CATÓLICA-LISBON could not be prouder of this distinction and recognition for the quality and commitment of the students and their research work, reflecting what is the desire and ambition of the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics: to practice excellence in teaching and research, helping its students to develop an extraordinary career and contributing to a more prosperous future of society.

These are the names of the graduates of merit of CATÓLICA-LISBON, as well as the title of their theses, now in competition to be the best thesis in the country in the area of Portuguese economics:

  • “And Yet, They Last: The Employment and Productivity Effects of Crises on Firms in Portugal”, from Martim Leitão;
  • “Resource misallocation in Portugal: Between sector misallocation and intersectoral linkages”, from Madalena Gaspar;
  • “Better and Stronger? Theory and Evidence on the Effect of R&D Tax Credits on the Trajectory of Firms”, from Rahim Richard Jiva Lila;
