Luís Amaral, CEO of the Eurocash Group, has been awarded the "Personality in the Retail Business for the last 30 years " award by European Conferences United, organizer of the Poland & CEE Retail Summit and announced by Leszek Balcerowicz, President of the Foundation. The award was presented during a gala on the eve of the aforementioned Congress, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of Professor Leszek Balcerowicz’s reforms in Poland.

- This award is a great honor for me - says Luís Amaral, president of the Eurocash Group. Although it has been granted to me personally, in my opinion, it is an expression of appreciation throughout the Eurocash Group, first and foremost by our employees, partners and finally by the owners of the independent shops themselves. I believe that together we have altered the image of Polish trade on a larger scale than any other company. Since the early 1990s, there was a conviction in Poland - shared by foreign experts and networks operating on the Polish market - that domestic trade would soon be dominated by large stores, similar to Western countries. However, I had a completely different view. From the beginning, I saw the great potential of Polish entrepreneurs, their self-denial and willingness to act. At that time, I set a goal for myself and my team to create a company, thanks to which independent store owners in Poland could compete effectively with large and increasingly aggressive chains. After 20 years of hard work, retail stores are the largest segment of the Polish food market, which is unique in Europe. In addition, especially in recent years, there are again voices that small shops will disappear from this country. And, at the same time, we are going against the flow again, investing even more and creating more innovative and advanced solutions for them. Today, we see independent entrepreneurs running more and more modern stores, staying close to their customers and offering them exactly what they need. Both entrepreneurs and their employees have access to training, knowledge and, above all, much more advanced tools and solutions than those used by large, centrally managed chains. The coming years will bring even more work, gradual change in consumption habits, but also a significant increase in the importance of modern technologies. We will not stop our mission at this time. I believe in independent stores, Luís Amaral adds.

Eurocash Group is the largest Polish company active in the wholesale distribution of food products and marketing support to independent Polish entrepreneurs conducting retail operations. Franchise networks and partners supported by Eurocash associate more than 14,000 independent stores operating under the brands ABC, Groszek, Delikatesy Centrum, Lewiatan, Euro Sklep or Gama.
