The scholar Annamaria Conti from HEC Lausanne will give a talk at CATÓLICA-LISBON on her paper “What is the US Comparative Advantage in Entrepreneurship? Evidence from Israeli Migration to the United States”. Annamaria Conti will present this seminar on Monday September 16th, at 2PM in room 528 of CLSBE.

The paper, which can be consulted here, addresses the sources of the US entrepreneurial ecosystem’s comparative advantage by looking at what happens to Israeli tech startups that decide to move to the US, versus those that do not migrate. “We show that migrants raise larger funding amounts and are more likely both to apply for a trademark and to be acquired than non-migrants”, the abstract reads. The researchers found that the US’s advantage stems from a variety of sources: “high investor availability, a large consumer market, and a developed market for acquisitions.”

Annamaria Conti joined HEC Lausanne in Switzerland in 2018, as an associate professor, after working as assistant professor at the Scheller College of Business in Atlanta, USA. She has had her work on entrepreneurship and the economics of science published in several journals, including the renowned Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal or Research Policy, and has also been awarded several distinctions, including the Brady Family Award for Faculty Research Excellence in 2018.

This talk is integrated in the CUBE Research Seminar Series, a research work forum presentation in different areas of economics and management, seeking above all to create a learning environment and exchange ideas on topics of current research in these fields.
