According to the recent evaluation of the research units conducted by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), Católica Lisbon Research Unit in Business and Economics (CUBE) is the best Research Unit in social sciences in Portugal. CUBE was classified as EXCELLENT with an impressive score of 24.5 out of 25.

According to the jury: "CUBE is clearly an excellent research centre which deserves a very high ranking. Its research output in pure academic terms is impressive as is its more applied research and labs. The centre is very well internationally networked with close collaboration with leading American universities, i.e. in the form of a common PhD program with Carnegie Mellon. It has also very close contacts with the private and public sectors in Portugal. Its future plans are excellent. CUBE has a very strong intellectual and material basis, its research labs in particular are very impressive and at the international cutting edge. Some of its research projects, such as e.g. 'Patient innovation' are clearly at the international research frontier. CUBE has without any doubt a sufficient critical mass in the areas of its core research areas. The management is very competent, committed and well organized, and the budget seems adequate for carrying out the proposed strategic program."
