Master students must have completed at least 42 ECTS at CATÓLICA-LISBON before going abroad.
After completing all courses of the study plan, and before defending the thesis, students are allowed to take an additional semester of optional courses. In this case, another annual registration fee will be charged, plus the tuition fees of a full semester. The maximum number of credits allowed for this additional semester is 36 ECTS.
Penalty for giving up from the International Master Program
A student who has been selected for a partner university, but decided to give up from the Exchange semester before going abroad, he/she will be requested to pay a penalty fee, and will need to do a formal request to change for the national program with specialization or fill in the international requirement with an internship abroad.
A student that was abroad and completed the exchange semester, but failed to complete the minimum number of ECTS or decided to change to the national program, he/she will need to do a Formal Request to change to the national program with specialization. However, this student will continue paying the fee for the international program during the thesis semester.
The student that was abroad and completed the exchange semester successfully with a minimum of 18/20 ECTS approved, will not be allowed to change for the national program with specialization.
Courses in which a student has failed (at CATÓLICA-LISBON or abroad) do not appear in their final transcript. However, if and when applicable, the Central Administrative Services will include a note about the fact that the student did not comply with the requirement of completing at least 18 ECTS during the exchange semester.
This is the note that will be included in that case:
The student completed an exchange semester abroad, but did not fulfill the school's standard of obtaining a minimum of 18 ECTS credits during that period.
Determination of the students' final average grade:
- Courses failed do not enter in the calculation for a student’s final average grade.
Final average grade for students who started the program before Fall 2015:
The final MSc average grade is calculated as the weighted average of the curricular units which the student successfully completed with a quantitative grade (on a 0-20 scale), with the weights being given by the number of ECTS credits of each unit.
