Sergio Rebelo is the MUFG Bank Distinguished Professor of International Finance at the Kellogg School of Management, where he was Director of the Finance Department. Before joining Kellogg, Rebelo was a professor at the University of Rochester and at the Catholic University of Portugal.
He does research in the field of Macroeconomics and International Finance. He has studied the causes of business cycles, the impact of economic policies on economic growth, and currency fluctuations. He has received grants from the Sloan Foundation, the National Bureau of Economic Research, the National Science Foundation, and the World Bank.
He is a member of the Econometric Society, the National Bureau of Economic Research, and the Center for Economic Policy Research.
He has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including the American Economic Review, the European Economic Review, the Journal of Monetary Economics, and the Journal of Economic Growth.
Since 2004, he has co-hosted the Advanced Workshop for Central Bankers, a program for central bank researchers that has brought together hundreds of participants from around the world.
He was awarded a Grand Officer of the Ordem de Santiago da Espada in 2006.
He won the Science Prize from the Gulbenkian Foundation in 2008 and the Martin E. and Gertrude G. Walder Award for excellence in research in 2013.
He has consulted with the World Bank, the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the European Central Bank, the McKinsey Global Institute, the Global Markets Institute at Goldman Sachs, and other organizations. Rebelo received a PhD in Economics from the University of Rochester.
