The MSc in Finance is a rigorous and comprehensive program which aims at developing finance professionals with strong ethics and an in-depth knowledge of the field, both in financial investments and corporate finance.
The program combines theoretical rigor with a practical hands-on approach. Students have the opportunity to explore hedge fund strategies, discuss corporate restructuring, empirically test investment strategies, and immerse themselves in private equity or M&A deals.
CORE FINANCE COURSES
The mandatory courses in Finance assure an appropriate preparation in the main areas in Finance including both theory and standard applications.
These courses are designed to offer students the background knowledge required for the Finance specialization.
Courses can be waived based on previous academic experience. Mandatory courses in bold.
Business Ethics & Social Responsibility
Foundation courses and free electives for information only and subject to slight changes and/or to availability. For academic purposes, the only valid reference is your Study Plan provided by the Student Affairs office.

You may take free elective courses outside of your program to complement your area of expertise, or simply explore a topic that interests you.
To obtain a valuable international experience and further
improve your knowledge, you can pursue a Double Degree
or complete an exchange semester in one of CATÓLICALISBON’s
prestigious partner schools around the world.
Leadership Lab is designed to help you develop important competencies for managing and working with people and, therefore, for lifelong employability and growth. You can select among 1) career and employment workshops, and 2) personal development workshops.
Career workshops include sessions on networking, CV and cover letter preparation, and interviewing. You have the opportunity to participate in realistic assessment center activities and to receive feedback from industry professionals.
The personal development workshops are designed to help you develop key competences, such as oral communication, emotional intelligence, managing energy and stress, self-knowledge and motivation, and negotiating effectively.
Until the time of completion of the MSc degree, you must show evidence of proficiency in two foreign languages other than their native language.
This requirement can be fulfilled by taking a language course at CATÓLICA-LISBON or at one of our partner universities during the exchange or can be waived if you present evidence of proficiency in a 3rd language other than English and your native language.
Students are encouraged to complete a summer internship before or during the MSc program.
The internship is optional and should not overlap the academic calendar.
You will participate in a research methodologies workshop, designed to provide you with advice, resources, and useful tools to plan the research for your thesis.
For many students, the thesis semester serves as an ideal bridge between academic studies and professional career. You are expected to work full-time on your dissertation at CATÓLICA-LISBON for 3 to 4 months.
As you complete your thesis, the Career Development Office is available to work with you on your career planning and job search.
